Ministry
- Lights Ministry: My newest trainee (I mentioned him in our last newsletter) is learning super fast and is nearly ready to replace me as a leader of the team. I had him assisting in our easter event, which was a big success. This month, we also noticed that we had mice in the tech area. Not something we should neglect because of the many cables going through there. So we set traps with peanut butter and already caught some mice.
- Sunday School: We’ve been having an increase of kids in our class. At peak times, we had over 25! What was nice this month was that Anja never had to teach a class all by herself.
- Bilingual Ladies Bible Study: I was super excited when the leader asked me if I could translate because all the usual translators were not available. Unfortunately, I got sick and was unable to do it. However, I was able to help out leading two tables, which was fun. Sadly, the young woman who offered to play the cajon had to step down because of other involvements. What really blessed me was that someone else is now preparing the slides. That means less preparation time and less stair climbing.
- Corporate Communion: This month, Chris had the privilege to do a weekend coorporate communion. That means leading the congregation through communion, all 3 services. Of course he was nervous. 1st time he dropped the bread and the 2nd time he forgot to switch on the microphone. But the rest went well. - Church Planting Class: Most of the times, we get similar feedbacks because we don’t have too many people in the class. And so it’s always a hilight when we can teach before Pastor Mike and get a thorough feedback. Chris has a pretty good routine with doing these sermons, but this time it was different. He was having trouble with the preparations and was even more nervous when he learned that he would be preaching before Pastor Mike. Even more surprising was the feedback: Of course Pastor Mike noticed the nervousity, but was getting really excited about the teaching itself. He mentioned that it was very pastoral and with Gods authority. Given the circumstances, it was clear to Chris that this was Gods work. In our weakness He is strong!
Family
- Updates Girls: Ziva and Yuna have been learning to answer questions about our names and last name in English and Spanish. Ziva can even tell you Anja’s phone number. They have also been learning body parts in Spanish. On the walks, Anja is trying to teach them how to interact with friendly cats and dogs. At times, the girls are playing very nicely together before they try to steal each others toys again.
- Update Baby: Anja felt pain in the upper part of her belly on a Wednesday evening and noticed less movement from the baby the following days. We went for a checkup and the baby had the umbilical cord around her neck. We had to do some tests, which also revealed an infection. Anja was put on bed rest for a couple of days. At the next appointment, the umbilical cord was off the baby’s neck again. Praise the Lord!
- Ziva’s Rash: Suddenly, Ziva had a rash on her upper body and Anja remembered that we had had a lot of tomato. After we stopped giving her tomato and egg for a while, she was fine again.
- New Clothes and Shoes: Anja lent a sister from church Ziva’s backup pants for her granddaughter. A week later, that sister blessed us with underwear, pants, socks and shoes that fit Yuna perfectly.
- Guitar Strings For Free: Anja asked a couple of guitar players from church which strings they were using and ended up receiving a brandnew pack of rather expensive strings. God is good!
