After we made the decision to serve at Calvary Chapel Rosarito, we have suddenly started to connect to other church members every week. We also found a life group and have been serving in the prayer team since February 2020. The best thing about it, however, is that we feel at home.
As soon as we attended the first Pillars Class at Calvary Chapel Rosarito (CCR), we have started to connect to other church members every week and our network has constantly been expanding. We were asked by a staff member whether we were already part of a life group (Bible group). Since we said no, he told us about his life group whose members gather at a different gated community near us and invited us to come by.

We were immediately welcomed with open arms and Anja was invited to a regular prayer meeting by mothers (see picture) from this life group at the first meeting. In this prayer meeting, in turn, there was a woman who regularly invites other missionary women to her home – for a cozy get-together and exchange.
Since February 2020 we have also been part of the prayer ministry at CCR. Every service, a team of prayer ministry member stands in the “prayer corners” to offer prayer to those who have a prayer request.
Each team is made up of English-speaking and Spanish-speaking members, so that everyone can share their prayer request and receive prayer in the language they speak. But sometimes, it happens, that all Spanish-speaking team members are occupied and we are asked, if we speak Spanish. Anja has therefore already received prayer requests in Spanish, prayed in English and then summarized them in Spanish, so that the prayer seekers had at least an idea of the content. Then why not pray in Spanish right away, you ask yourself? Because praying in Spanish is much more difficult than having a conversation.

Christof has also started to help in the media-team, in the lighting area, which is completely new area for the tech all-rounder. On Monday afternoon, he is attending church planting class (see picture, last row, 3rd from the left). It’s a two year program where you learn everything you need to know about planting a church. You need to be at least open to plant a church and you need to be recommended by the Senior Pastor to be accepted into the program.
Church planting class is not just sitting in a class every Monday and taking notes though, it comes with a lot of (home)work: every week, you need to prepare and preach a 15 minute sermon, you have to sit in one weekend service and take notes while serving in another service. In addition, you need to listen to 75 sermons per semester and take notes – 1st and 2nd semester students listen to sermons of the New Testament by Calvary Chapel founder Chuck Smith, while 3rd and 4th semester students listen to sermons of the New Testament by CCR Senior Pastor Mike Vincent.
