Back to School (Church Planting Class)

On the 13th, the spring semester of Church Planting Class started. Chris is giving his sermons in English and Anja hers in Spanish. Anja is also helping out as a teacher, giving them detailed feedback on their sermons. What is different this semester is the focus of the teaching. All of our last semesters, we were taught on how to improve our sermons and different topics regarding church planting. This semester, the focus is on doctrines of the faith, e.g. Jesus, salvation, baptism, etc.

Anja Teaching Classes About Switzerland

One of my (Anja) friends told me that she is teaching her students about different countries and cultures. I then offered to come to her school to teach them about Switzerland. After a couple of days, my friend asked what day she would be available. We backed some Zopf (Swiss bread) and I prepared a presentation with lots of pictures showing landscaped and cities of Switzerland, the local food, traditional clothing, traditional and modern sports Switzerland is good at as well as traditional and modern music, including playlist.

The children were excited to have a real Swiss in her class and asked a lot of questions, for example what our houses look like, what snow feels like, what they teach us in school or how we celebrate birthdays. They were so disappointed that we celebrate our birthdays without a piñata or that we don’t have quincinieras (a big party when a girl turns 15 to celebrate her becoming a woman)! It was a great experience and I enjoyed it a lot.

Anja Works on Friday Afternoons

I (Anja) have been wanting to work for some time now and we have finally been able to make arrangements. We still prepare our Sunday school lessons and sermons in the morning, but from 1pm, I am at church working. The main focus is to be there to support, e.g. in graphics, the media or wherever help is needed, but I would also like to offer German and English classes. Let’s see how things will develop.

Light Ministry News

I (Chris) was was already able to use the server and other components we brought over from Switzerland in our sanctuary and one of our church plants (La Mina) asked for advice on how to upgrade their lights. I visited their location, which is in another part of Rosarito, and made a plan for improvements.

Family News

  • Yuna has been making a lot of progress talking. Words she can say so far: kitty, birdie, Abby, Mami, Daddy, water, chocolate, cheese, pasta, pizza, mango, ginger, shoe, bibi (bib), potty, Paw Patrol
  • Ziva is trying to speak Spanish a lot more since Anja told her that she has to learn it because she lives in Mexico and she will not be able to speak with the children here if she doesn’t. One of the sentences she knows best is, no quieres comer? (You don’t want to eat?) 😀
  • Samson is healthy and is using the litter box. We brought him to a vet and they were suspecting that he has leukemia. However, they also said he might have secondary infections for which we received antibiotics and eye drops. His health improved rapidly and in no time he went from a very tired and sick kitten to a lively and healthy rascal with whom the kids love to play

Prayer Requests

  • for health (backs Chris and Anja, cold Ziva)
  • for salvation for our music blasting neighbor
  • for faithful attendees for Fit 2 Serve
  • for the kids in our class to get saved
