Ministry
Anja
Band
I sometimes still find it hard to find the tenor harmonies. When I practice them at home I am fine, but when we are all singing together, I am lost. I think a part of the problem is that we sing the songs in a different harmony than the songs are provided in for us to practice. Another problem is that we singers sometimes don’t practice together before the band practice. That means that everyone has to somehow just find their harmony and that doesn’t always happen. It used to be different, when the ministry leader would practice with us singers before each band practice and he knows all the harmonies. So even if you were not able to find it, he could help you. Honestly, I wish we could do these practices again.
Kids Ministry
Just like on Mother’s Day, I was the one scheduled for Father’s Day. Although I did plan on doing something unique with the kids for their dad’s, I ended up choosing one of the provided crafts. It was a 2D tool box, so we folded the paper, added a closing clasp as well as a handle and stuck some paper tools on there, along with the message “Feliz Did Del Padre – Te Amo Papa” (Fappy Father’s Day – I Love You Daddy). The kids had a lot of fun doing that. I was just surprised by how many kids wanted to make a blue tool box. I had brought several different colors, but the majority of them wanted blue.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have any professions of faith anymore. I know that some kids were already born again believers when they came to our class and others got born again in one of our classes, but we haven’t had any additional once recently. We keep praying for those who have not accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior so they too, can be saved.
I just also wanted to mention that we are not allowed to take pictures of the kids during class, which is why we are not posting any. I know it would be nice for you to guys to see, but that’s one of the rules we have in our kids ministry.
Fit 2 Serve
On the 18th, we had our Mobility Workshop with the Fit 2 Serve founder from Las Vegas, Derek Del Rosario. Unfortunately, at the same time, we also had a men’s conference… anyway, we ended up having ten participants, plus four coaches. We did a CrossFit workout, followed by an extended stretching part (mobility) and ended with prayer, worship and a Bible study. The participants seemed to enjoy it.
Merch Explaining the workout Strechting… stretching… Our participants
Prior to the workshop, we had been praying about what we could do to attract more people. I didn’t seem that we should move the day or the hour of the workout, but I was thinking about advertising the event in our church announcements one week prior to the workout and also printing some flyers. Then I ended up walking into our graphic designer and he suggested that we have an information table outside after the services, which is usually how people sign up for church events. I liked that idea. To find out about our possibilities, I went to talk with Pastor Mike.
The plan was to have a personal video announcement to our special event that we could reuse, a table outside after all of the services a week prior to the event as well as flyers that we could hand out to people inside and outside of the church. Well, you might have guessed… it didn’t go to according to plan. At first, the video wasn’t ready, then they didn’t play it and the name of our Facebook page wasn’t corrected on the flyer, as requested. We also only had about 20 people come to the table outside… Let’s say it was not ideal, but I am still happy with how many people showed up to the workshop.

Lights
First off, I haven’t gotten a new trainee so far. However, that wasn’t too big of a deal since this month was rather busy. The intern that I trained up is fully engaged now and is already doing a better job than me. He also shows clear leader abilities and character. I wonder what God has planned for him. Here’s just one of his scenes that amazed me:

Then it was time to replace one of our front moving heads, which failed. After having a closer look at it, I found out that the manufacturer completely messed up with the thermal design. But the new ones perform very well and so far, I haven’t had any problems.
Since I have been feeling an urge to finish the light controller, I have invested some time to trim the software to perform nicely. One of the improvements was to make it react faster. I don’t know if you know how much 20 milliseconds are, but if you want to make a light blink fast, it’s pretty slow. Thus I managed to cut the response time in half. Somehow, what I did before feels like an unnecessary detour, but I am sure the Lord had His reasons why He had me do it this way. Sometimes, we have to do something in a certain way and only later see why it was important.
It looks like a change is coming. I already received a request to train up someone from another church plant on the lights during the coming church planting conference in August. That by itself is a challenge because a proper training normally takes at least one or two months. However, I’ll do my best to give him as much knowledge as possible without roasting his brain 😛
Family
Weddings
One of Anja’s church planting class mates got married as well as our friends from the media team who love to take care of our kids.
Our friends’ wedding was a lot of fun. There was a lot of music and Ziva had a blast dancing, swirling and bouncing. She was also very excited to wear her new dress for the first time. We had to get a new one since she had outgrown all of her other nice ones. Let’s just say Ziva created a special moment when she just walked up to the table where the bride and groom were sitting and wanted to sit on their laps. We were a bit embarrassed, but the couple just let her be there and actually enjoyed having her there for a while.
Ziva and the happy couple Ziva and Daddy
During the class mate’s wedding, Ziva had to go to the bathroom like five times, so Anja missed some important parts like when the bride walked in or they exchanged their vows. During that time, Chris had to take care of Yuna and the lights, which was not an easy task either. After the wedding Ziva fell asleep in the car and did only wake up the next morning. She was so exhausted, that she didn’t even eat dinner.
Birthday Party
The daughter of one of Anja’s band mates turned 1 year old and they organized a big birthday party for her. We were a bit confused when we followed the GPS to the location because there didn’t seem anything close to a park. However, it was indeed there, behind a fence, a beautiful garden with grass, bamboo along the walls, olive trees, a cooking area, bathrooms, a stage and a piñata corner. Everything looked amazing! There was a bouncy castle, which Ziva didn’t want to leave, face painting, a clown show and food: tostilocos, Italian food, a cake and cookies. Let’s just say it was outstanding and the kids enjoyed it, too! There were other girls Yuna’s age and a boy that wanted to play with her. So all in all, it was very nice and both kids fell asleep on the way home. Ziva even slept through until the morning!
Mmmm, mango! Tigress Ziva Yuna and her age buddies
We Are Moving!
For a while already, we had been wondering whether or not we should renew our rental contract. The rent is rather high for our budget, Ziva has a dust allergy and all of the upstairs area (except for the bathrooms) is carpet, they are building an airbnb and just in general, we had been feeling a bit stuck. However, we still felt like we should not do anything. The day came when our landlord’s real estate agent asked us if we would like to renew the contract and we both knew that it was time to leave. At that moment, we had no idea where we would go. We were just trusting God to provide.
The real estate agent asked us if she could help us find something, and we said yes. She got back to us shortly after, telling us that there was nothing available in the area, not for our budget anyway and that she would suggest that we stay in the house. We knew immediately that was not of the Lord. But still, where would we go? Around the same time, Anja saw one of the band leader posting pictures of a trailer he had been renovating. The following week, she asked him what their plan was with that trailer and they said that they wanted to rent it out. Anja asked if they already had someone and they said no, so we agreed to have a look at the trailer.
We were anxious to see if this trailer was God’s answer to our prayers. God had told Anja that one of the signs that it was our place would be that the kids would feel comfortable and at home immediately. After Anja told Ziva that we would look at a house, Ziva kept asking for the house and when we arrived, she immediately went to inspect everything and seemed really comfortable. Chris loved it and Anja could see herself living there, too. She was absolutely excited about the color of the kitchen: turquoise! Since it’s a trailer, it’s all on one level. The rooms are on the small side but the living space is nice and big and there is an outside area where we can easily put our car and a trampoline with space left for the kids to play. There is also an area with a roof where we could sit outside and have parties as well as a shed for storage, which is huge for us because we haven’t had any storage space in the house we live in. We would have to get a guard dog as part of the security system, but that was not a deal breaker at all. We are excited to move there!
Another bonus is that there is big park just a couple of minutes away by car, so on our free days, we could go over there for some family time. We did that just after we had a look at the house and enjoyed some sandwiches before Anja and Ziva went to play on the playground.
Ziva
The best news first: Ziva is now diaper free! All it took was a couple of days of no diapers, no panties nor pants and voila! It had finally gotten warm enough so we could actually do that. We think Ziva had to get to a place where she recognized the sensation of having to go pee. Since then, we hardly had any accidents and her skin has gotten a lot better, too. Ziva always had some kind of rash while using diapers.
Ziva LOVES to dance, swirl and jump! Her favorite song right now is “I like to move it move it” from the movie Madagascar. When Ziva hears that, she is partying! She even asks Anja to sing it to her so she can jump and dance, whether on the trampoline or in the living room.
I world I sit grass I sista I swing I run I fan
Another novelty is that Ziva doesn’t want any hair ties in her hair. Whenever there is a hair tie, she asks to have it removed. However, Ziva has to have a hair tie when we are eating to prevent food in her hair. Whenever Ziva’s hair is open, Anja calls her Mowgli, because that’s what she reminds her of, a cute wild child.
We are excited to soon celebrate Ziva’s. 3rd birthday! If you have been planning on getting a gift for Ziva, but haven’t had the chance to do it yet, here is the link to our Amazon Wishlist
Yuna
Yuna started to babble, a “bababa” and a “mamam”, and the later can sound quite desperate at times. She also likes being upside down. When you put Yuna in this position, she wants to come back up, but then back down again. Just as her sister, Yuna enjoys good music and moves her little bum up and down to it. She is literally all over the place and that in no time! You really need to keep a close eye on her or she is gone! It surprises us how focused Yuna can be when she watches a video. She just sits there, all focused.
